The Worlds Most Endangered Frogs
Frogs are the most numerous of the worlds amphibians, but they are rapidly declining, and many species are actually facing the imminent threat of extinction. Pollution, global warming, and habitat destruction from human development have already taken a serious toll, reports Animal Planet. Frogs, in particular, have suffered, having lost an estimated 170 species in the last 10 years alone. Frogs are also affected by a singular danger that is threatening their populations worldwide: the chytrid fungus, which coats frogs skin and seals out vital moisture and kills frogs by dehydration. Atrocious Aftermath of Bullying - 833 Words
Imagine you are on your way home to your sisterââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Sweet 16â⬠birthday party. You brought her a secret present and are excited to show it to her. You walk into her room thrilled to ââ¬Å"pop the surpriseâ⬠and instead of her being joyfully surprised, you become depressed with sadness that she hung herself from the ceiling fan. These kinds of disparities happen often due to bullying. Bullying should be dealt with to avoid the negative and morose consequences that can affect an individualââ¬â¢s life. Bullying should not be dealt with because a bully free society is not attainable. Some say that reaching a bully free society is not viable because to do so you must reach a ââ¬Å"Utopiaâ⬠which is ââ¬Å"unrealistic and unachievableâ⬠(Kalman). Unfortunately, a ââ¬Å"Utopiaâ⬠is not achievable, so we must deal with bullying with all our strength and potential to prevent it from happening. A bully-free Utopia is impossible because bullying has become ââ¬Å"the normâ⬠and has grown to be recognized as ââ¬Å"socially acceptableâ⬠(Casserly). Since a bully-free Utopia is unattainable we must use all measures to stop bullying from occurring and spreading like ââ¬Å"wildfireâ⬠. Contrasting to why a Utopia is not possible, ââ¬Å"Ladakh, is a region in which there is no bullying.â⬠However, Ladakh is not a true Utopia (in which death is not present); it is a bully-free Utopia. A bully-free society can be created by practicing ââ¬Å"wisdomâ⬠and ââ¬Å"moral principlesâ⬠(Kalman). Photography in Criteria Structural Nature
Question: Discuss about the Photography in Criteria Structural Nature. Answer: Introduction: Photography has been viewed as the mechanical form of reproduction with the undergoing immersed debates in the respective cultures. It emerges with the modernism that has been always conscious of the engagement and the culture that is popular in these criteria. There have been found to be some relationships that are uneasy and have challenges to the authorship in the originality and the rise I the mass reproduction. (Jake, 2012) said the scope that has been applied is aura photography with the capability of enhancing the scientific photo practices and the interpretation of the results as well. Photography in the late 1980s was conducted in a protagonist manner and thus the scope adopted is of modernity in nature and applied the dominant ideology hence the camera has another suggestion pertaining to the psychoanalysis and the theory of the metaphor as well as the review of false identities. The narcissism of the regarded pose has a different suggestion that the power relationship involved in the photographic process adopts an approach of the hunter and the prey hence the person being shot by the individual known as the photographer may not always be in the role of the victim. The photography is seen as the metaphor incorporating the desire and the capacity that enhances the productivity to preserve the memory which is not regarded in a wide scope by the freeze framed moment that produces and image of deathlike nature. The context views photography as the process which is very unique and analogue thus representation of the event is cumbersome in front of the lens and the transferred light of the reactions of chemical in nature. The adopted methodology in the photography is known as the indexical nature of the photograph which has been given raise to both the discourses of the scientific nature as well as the magical. George, (2014) said the ideologies of the nature of human being in this context have been well incorporated. Photography takes the mechanical reproduction which has been discussed and predicated on the mimesis thus promising to reproduce would be reality prevailing at that particular moment. The representations are given a date with reference to the modernity approach of the Avant grade where the fractured and alienated visions are known to be characteristic of the modern life. The cameras ability to reproduce the geometric space makes it so appealing in the context of the photographer who vies the subject that is being undertaken or pursed. The images captured and derived in photography are intimately tied up within the nexus of desire and the given memory. The knowledge is used and the predicated memory to recognize the mechanical approach that tis perpetuated in the ideology. (Festus, 2012) said the photography in these criteria is the structural nature of the given aspect of the paradigms and thus it undergoes a number of various modifications in order to pair the images and produce the conceptual modernity in the images. The conflict exists where there is no contemporaries seeking to see the representation of the psychological conflict hence the through the representations the object body is put into the considerations. The instances in which the art of photography was used performativity are clearly shown and hence the productive tool for individuals are well illustrated as well as the matters of state authorities. There is also inscription of the positions that cannot be contested in any manner thus the same elements tend to make photography cumbersome. The same elements make the weapon to be used in photography and thus it is readily available to anyone who uses photography to write positions and the deacon structure potential.(Luke, 2013) said the person has been seen to me making the motions of graphics in nature which results to an unclear shadow behind the picture. Marketing Tools At Work Essays - Marketing, Advertising, Juice
Marketing Tools At Work Juice Stop : Marketing Tools at Work The Juice Stop is a small local franchise of a large national network of stores. Juice Stop specializes in twenty four ounce, custom made frozen smoothies, fresh juices and healthy snacks . Juice Stop customizes their blends exactly to the customers' tastes. The Juice Stop is a quality driven place. The quality of the product is what makes the Juice Stop experience memorable. The non-fat yogurts and sherberts are made especially for the Juice Stop from the brand leader in frozen dessert's Edy's Ice Cream. juice stop has also refined their juice formulations by continually meeting with their growers to ensure only the most succulent fruits are picked to ensure a natural high quality product. The Juice Stop employed four main areas of marketing to help increase sales. They were: advertising, promotions, philanthropy, and publicity. In fall of 1998 the Juice Stop was a business that was losing money. The brake even point was around five hundred and thirty dollars a day to recoup operating costs. Unfortunately the Juice Stop was only making around four hundred and twenty-five dollars a day, and therefore losing money. December of 1998 saw a management change and with it a change in the way marketing was handled. What resulted was seven hundred and ten dollar average sales per day. A simple change in strategy resulted in a highly profitable business. The most important thing to consider is the target market of our products. The market for the Juice Stop is fairly wide. The location of the corner of 13th street and University Drive across from the University of Florida make it ideal to target foot traffic from the university, including both faculty and students. Other targets are the athletic and health conscious, as well as the local non-student population around Gainesville. The local non-student market is important because in the summer the amount of students goes down by seventy-five percent. Those making the local population important for summer profits. Advertising dollars for a small business are limited and so choosing where and when to advertise are important strategic decisions. One of the first and most important places to advertise in Gainesville is the Alligator. The Alligator is the most read newspaper in Gainesville, and there target audience is almost exclusively the University of Florida student body, which is the same target audience as the Juice Stop, thus it is a highly effective advertising tool. The Juice Stop chose to run a small two inch by two inch ad three times a week in the Alligator for ten weeks at the beginning of the spring semester. Even though the ad was small , because of the large readership business seemed to pick up as a result. (See visual aid number 1). The Juice Stop also chose to advertise in a local lifestyle magazine called Moon. Moon reaches the same target audience but is more focused on alternative lifestyles i.e. vegetarians and vegans (people who don't eat any animal products such as milk or eggs in addition to meat). Which makes the Juice Stop a great place for them to go. The ads in Moon were large half page ads and also included a coupon in the ad. The response we got from the ad 2 was measured in part by how many coupons we received back. The number was quite large, again proving the ad and strategy behind it was a success. (See visual aid number 3). A third innovative advertising attempt was made on the cutting edge of the world wide web. The Juice Stop bought a banner on a web page called collegestudent.com. This web page was designed for college students, with chat rooms ,post boards and even personals specific to each college. According to studies the average college student spends 3.2 hours online each day, to write reports or check e-mail or even just to surf the Internet. The cheap cost of the banner was another reason for choosing this site. The site charged by how many hits that page got. as a result you are only paying for people who see the site and the ad. The web page also printed five hundred tee shirts with our

The importance of patient safety essays
The importance of patient safety essays Patient safety is such an important part of our health care system and it helps define quality health care. Keeping our patients safe is a challenging issue because errors and mistakes can and do happen. Error occurs when a planned sequence of mental and physical activities fail to achieve the intended outcome and when this failure cannot be attributed to some chance intervention or occurrence (Ballard, 2003). According to the Institute of Medicine, medical error resulted in as many as 98,000 preventable deaths per year; twice the rate of traffic fatalities and the estimated cost in the US could be almost 29 billion dollars (Wells, 2001). Someone has to ensure operational systems and methods are taken to help reduce the likelihood that errors occur, but who is responsible for taking these proper measurers? Is it society, patients themselves, physicians, nurses, nursing professors, administrators, researchers, physicians, or professional associations? In the long run, all of thes e entities are responsible for making sure the patient has the safest possible outcome. This is a nationwide and worldwide issue that will never be completely resolved because error is always prone to happen. As nurses we need to make sure we are taking all appropriate actions to limit the amount of mistakes that will put our patients at risk. Nursing definitely plays a huge part in patient safety. Nurses are directly in the core of patient care and can be caught in the middle of either witnessing medical error or being liable for a situation. Harming individuals who seek care and compassion is the last thing nurses intend to happen. The nursing shortage can take some responsibility for endangering the quality of care. When nurses are spread too thin, patients do not receive the adequate care they need and dangers are more likely to arise. In most health care settings, nursing care is more utilized than medical care is. This emphasiz...

Economic Issues Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
Economic Issues - Essay Example These cities such as Stoke-on-Trent which was once booming with business and investors are now struggling to even keep majority of their industries open as the investors have moved to London and so has the population (Sindreu & Douglas). The situation in the UK is not very different with what has been happening in the rest of the world with big cities taking over all the business for the smaller cities and masking the economic problems being witnessed in the countries. Investors move into the large cities and camp there forgetting that there are other cities that need the investment more. The population of the nation also moves from their struggling cities and seek employment in these cities. All the elite camp in these cities and continue to build up the already booming economy. This is however really wrong as only one or a few cities in the country cannot totally be taking over the business from the rest of the cities making other loose employment through closing industries while the large cities are overflowing with them. The booming economy in large cities and the influx of people to these cities only lead to increase in inequality. Those in these cities are overly paid and enjoy the security of employment while the rest of the people struggle to even put food on their table at all times. The situation can be equated to the rich becoming richer while the poor continue to wallow in poverty. With the large cities having control over everything in the nation, the rest of the cities have to rely on them to survive. People are forced to go shop in London, New York, San Francisco or Washington as they are the ones with the resources and supply of materials. The little resources remaining in these other cities are therefore continuously being taken to the lack cities widening the economic gap even wider (DePillis & Guo). The government should come in and try and create some balance within all its cities in the nation. It cannot put all its eggs in one basket by

Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Werner Herzog Essay
Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Werner Herzog - Essay Example One important lesson that can be derived from the film pertains to the consequences of selfish desires of the leaders like Pizarro, Guzman, and Aguirre. All of them were given the opportunity to lead the expedition, but all of them failed because of some problems with their character and leadership system. Character is an important factor in the implementation of leadership responsibilities. In this film however, the immaturity of the leaders was presented by the way they come up with their decisions and in their ability to handle the pressures that surround them. ââ¬Å"To lead is to serveâ⬠. This is the ideal principle of leadership but not even one of the three leaders has shown such example. For instance, Pizarro has exercised selfish dictatorship. His system might be effective in some respects but the effect was not good enough. This is because he was too insensitive with the situation that was taking place with his men. He did not think deeply about the possible consequences of his decision. In one instance, he sent out forty of his men to the dangerous Amazon River and jungle without realizing how this may impact them. He placed the live of his men at risk even if he knew that the Amazon River and the jungle will be treacherous for the expedition. Evidently, Pizarro had abused and mishandled his power. Guzman, on the other hand, displayed avariciousness in his leadership regime. More specifically, he deprived his men with their basic needs such as food. He wanted only to take care of himself and made sure that he has a good supply of food. Meanwhile, he let the men who are serving him go hungry and thirsty.

Influencing Otherââ¬â¢s Behavior and Its Impact Essay Example for Free
Influencing Otherââ¬â¢s Behavior and Its Impact Essay As an individual, we have the capacity to affect otherââ¬â¢s behavior, characters and attitudes. in fact, what we did to influence othetfr has the more impoact thyan what an anidicidual do it to himself. However, the power to persuade depends upon on what kind of persuasion we did and how the manipulation takes place. As an individual, we have then eytnmdecy to believe hwat opthewrs said and what others do towards us. Actually, it is more likely to believe otherââ¬â¢s idea. Influencing others thohuhts and actions msut be continually improve his perception and quality towards quality and productivity (Seminar Information Service, 2007). However, how could we do this and what is the inpact of persuading our thought s and isea upon others? II. Influencing Others Thgoughts and behavior Communication with a person is one of the major concern on how to persuade others upon your ideas and belkifs. Constant communication will build a strong confidence and will mark trust and support when you are arguing or discussing something with him. It is also a way to get his attention ans support when you are in the midst of conversation with him. In fact, inidivucdual and group victory towards others mainly depends on the ability on how to communicate woth others. The process on how a person cvommunicatye wotu pthers strogly influence others perception on you. If you have the capability and skills in persuading others ideas to your own by means of well-built communicatiuon, you have also the powers to be understood and the influence to be inculcated toerda others. The communication skills are the key on how to exploit individual and even group potential and beliefs. Indeed, individual and group success mainly rooted from their ability to exchange words clearly and with persuasion. Explore and examine another personââ¬â¢s way of communication stryle in ordewr to adapt the implication and delivery and idea to the approach of that person. Well-defined relationship can sway otherââ¬â¢s actions and judgments. However, how could a person buiuld strong relationship without the ability to communicate well? Building good relationds comes from building good communication skills. As constaent communicatiuon build authority, good relkationship also build power to plead oneââ¬â¢s case. However, before entering to the relationship, it is important to underdtanr anf analyze forst oneââ¬â¢s style of communication and relationship towdrs opther. The skill to analyze them will improve oneââ¬â¢s way and strategy on how to relate woith them. The dynamica of the communicationa and rekationships of others pave the way on how to approach them in suach a way that they could handle our means of camaraderie amd acquaintance. The analysisi and defining our approach and goals and identifying the most effecvtove methopd will emphatically influcnec positively anothersââ¬â¢ behavior and their way of perception. In terms of psychological approach, assess and analyuze how the style natuarally encourage others type of relationship. Plan an influence strategy, and use an examined and analyzed techniques for association and rapport. There are studies conducted shoews that conformity has a strong influence towards individual. It increases conformity towards individual. The deegeree of comfomiryt is basewd on the levels of sympathty being shown and felt for that person (GERHART, 2006). There are many well-known studies in social psychology that demonstrate various influences on conformity. Conformity is defined as a change in behavior, belief, or opinion so that the change is more congruent, or agreeable, with an influential individual or group. Among these influences are group pressure, guilt, and authority (Kiesler Kiesler, 1969). Research has also indicated that these influences hold much more power on conformity than originally preconceived. They can potentially become very powerful tools for subtle, human manipulation when used correctly. Due to this, it is very surprising that no direct research on the influence of sympathy on conformity exists. Sympathy is defined feelings of sorrow or concern for another person (not to be confused with empathy). Although no solid, empirical evidence for the influence of sympathy on conformity exists, it is often used effectively. Many strategies for donation collection aim at getting other people to conform to the belief that money is needed, and sympathy is typically used as a marketing tool. People in everyday situations also, either intentionally or unintentionally, elicit sympathy in others so that they may conform to their beliefs or comply with their requests. For example, Perina (2002) found that college students admit that 70 percent of their excuses for missed assignments are lies. A vast majority of these lies concern health problems and deceased relatives, which is likely to elicit sympathy in the professor. Another example of the influence of sympathy on conformity is the Christian religion. The Bible states that God gave His only Son, Jesus, so that no one else would have to suffer. People could sympathize with this, which would influence their conformity to the religion. Yet even with these powerful implications, no direct research can be found on this probable relationship. There does exist, however, some research where sympathy is applicable. Many psychologists and philosophers have suggested that sympathy mediates altruistic behavior (Eisenberg Strayer, 1987; Wispe, 1991). Altruism is defined as intentional, voluntary behavior the benefits another and is not performed with the expectation of receiving external rewards or avoiding external punishment. Given this definition, conformity could be labeled as a subcategory of altruism. In many cases, people intentionally conform to the beliefs of others with no intent other than to please, or benefit, them. More recently, Eisenberg, Zhou, and Koller (2001) reported findings of sympathy predicting prosocial behavior. The only difference between altruism and prosocial behavior, by definition, is that prosocial behavior lacks a specified motive (Eisenberg Strayer, 1987). Again, conformity can be identified as a subcategory of prosocial behavior, which is closely related to altruism. Other research can be interpreted as sympathy being a confounding variable, influencing conformity. Studies of guilt on conformity (Freedman, Wallington, Bless, 1967) suggest that when participants experience guilt, they are much more likely to comply. Guilt is defined as feelings of responsibility for offensive actions. In their research, participants were induced to perform a negative behavior (e. g. , knocking over a thousand ordered note cards) at the expense of the perceived researcher, subsequently producing guilt. It could be argued, however, that the negative behaviors alone are likely to elicit sympathy, which in turn, could influence conformity to requests. Basically, the experimenterââ¬â¢s exposure to negative behaviors, regardless of the person responsible, could elicit sympathy and influence the participantââ¬â¢s conformity. This could have been controlled for had there been a group where confederates, followed by measurement of participant conformity, performed the negative behaviors. Therefore, sympathy is potentially applicable to this research. The purpose of this study is to examine the direct influence of sympathy on conformity. It is predicted that sympathy will promote the onset of conformity with the assumption that participants will only conform to the sympathized person. It is also predicted that women will display higher conformity, because they are more likely to be influenced by sympathy (Bond Smith, 1996; Ickes, 1997). It is hypothesized that people experiencing sympathy for an individual are more likely to conform to that individualââ¬â¢s opinions than people of the general population. GERHART, A. D. Develop a Personal Disaster Plan A natural disaster is any event that is caused by the force of nature on environmental factors that has catastrophic consequences. Natural disasters include: avalanches, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, impact events, landslides, mudslides, tornadoes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, typhoons, and volcanic eruptions [1]. I live in the state of Missouri and based on the geographical location it is frequently affected by natural disasters like Ice storms, tornados, severe storms, and flooding. Since the year 1990, Missouri has recorded more than 30 federal disaster declarations. Local government keeps track of disaster information locally and it is the responsibility of State Emergency Management Agency to work with the local government to make sure that they get all the information needed and then they integrate all the information and send it to the governor. Based on the intensity of the event, the governor may request the president to issue an emergency disaster declaration. [2] Advance Preparation: Preparing for the disaster in advance might save your life. So, itââ¬â¢s always a wise thing to prepare in advance. My steps are: â⬠¢ Designing a floor plan for my apartment, this makes me aware of the doors and windows to get out of the building during emergency. â⬠¢ Creating an emergency contact of a person who is residing out-of-state and name that person as ââ¬ËICEââ¬â¢ in my phoneââ¬â¢s contact list, because whenever we are involved in an accident the officials might call to that ââ¬ËICEââ¬â¢(In Case of Emergency) contact. â⬠¢ Registering to weather alerts and being aware of the climatic conditions. â⬠¢ Keeping the first aid kit in an emergency location in your house. â⬠¢ In case of tornados, planning a location which is beneat... ...t locate a restore point, so that all the members of the family meet at this point after the disaster. â⬠¢ Periodic drills must be done to ensure that, all the members of family execute their plan as planned. â⬠¢ Talk to the childrenââ¬â¢s school officials asking for disaster plan when the disaster hits during school hours. Catch-22 and Dr. Strangelove Essay
In Joseph Hellerââ¬â¢s novel, Catch-22, and Stanley Kubrickââ¬â¢s film, Dr. Strangelove, the bureaucrats are illustrated as illogical and untrustworthy. Hellerââ¬â¢s attention to administrations such as the hospital and the military-establishment are recognized for their unreliable rationality and logic. Similarly, in Dr. Strangelove, Kubrick mocks the absurdities of the nuclear arms race and of the officials of the United States and The Soviet Union as he conveys the malfunction of highly placed government bureaucrats. Catch-22 and Dr. Strangelove, are two satirical and somewhat historical works that effectively comment on the corrupt and perhaps insane bureaucrats. The lives of Yossarian and the men in his squadron in Catch-22 are not determined by their own decisions but instead, by the decisions of the impersonal bureaucracy. The bureaucrats are absolutely oblivious to any attempt the men make to reason with them logically. Major Major, for example, will only see people in his office if he is not there and sends them away when he returns. Doc Daneeka refuses to ground Yossarian for his ââ¬Å"insanityâ⬠because Yossarianââ¬â¢s desire to be grounded reveals that he is sane. Doc Daneeka elaborates in his discussion of Orr, Yossarianââ¬â¢s tent-mate. ââ¬Å"Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didnââ¬â¢t, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didnââ¬â¢t have to; but if he didnââ¬â¢t want to he was sane and had to.â⬠(46) Yossarian and the others in his squadron find that what they say and do has little effect on their fate when the bureaucracy controls them. Their only option is to follow the illogical rules and use what is expected of them to their own advantage. Yossarianââ¬â¢s superiors are more concerned with getting a promotion than they are about winning the war. Colonel Cathcart, the colonel in command of Yossarianââ¬â¢s squadron, tries to impress his superiors by ââ¬Å"bravelyâ⬠volunteering his men for dangerous combat. Cathcartââ¬â¢s only concern is being promoted to general. Cathcart continually raises the number of combat missions required of the men before they can be sent home. Yossarian argues with Doc Daneeka who explains, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦regulations do say you have to obey every order. Thatââ¬â¢s the catch. Even if the colonel were disobeying a Twenty-seventh Air Force order by making you fly more missions, youââ¬â¢d still have to fly them, or youââ¬â¢d be guilt y of disobeying an order of his.â⬠(58) Similarly, Dr. Strangelove also criticizes the malfunctions of bureaucracy and the inadequacy of officials. General Jack Ripper gives the command to attack the Soviet Union without permission from his superiors or the president. Instead of discussing the idea of an attack with is supervisors, Ripper orders the attack because, according to him; Clemenceauâ⬠¦ said war was too important to be left to the generals. When he said that, 50 years ago, he might have been right. But today, war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids. -Criticizes the malfunction of bureaucracy. (Dr. Strangelove) Mr. Presidentââ¬â¢s embarrassment about the issue demonstrates bureaucracy does not function appropriately because those lower in command should not determine the launch of nuclear powers. Further exemplifying the inadequacy of the bureaucrats, the Joint Chiefs in the war room show their unprofessional and blatant prejudice, especially toward the Russians. General Buck Turgidson clearly states, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m beginning to smell a big fat Commie rat,â⬠and later refers to them as ââ¬Å"a bunch of ignorant peons.â⬠The Germans are also referred to when Turgidson, upon learning Dr. Strangeloveââ¬â¢s original German name, passes it off as ââ¬Å"â⬠¦a Kraut by any other name.â⬠Dr. Strangelove, the character, also calls into question the reliability of people in power. Strangelove is clearly the Presidents scientific adviser in the war room whose appearance copies the mad scientist stereotype with his wild hair, black gloved hand, and his clearly brilliant yet insane mind. Through their presentation of bureaucracy, Heller and Kubrick display why officials and politicians are unfit to make important decisions concerning the safety of the country. Catch-22 conveys this notion through the bureaucracyââ¬â¢s enforcement of impractical rules and Catch-22ââ¬â¢s on the eccentric men in Yossarianââ¬â¢s squadron. Kubrick suggests the same concept in Dr. Strangelove by frequently demonstrating the disorder, madness and prejudice of the officials. In either piece, the reader carries away the certainty of the instability of the men in control of important military and national decisions.

Frederic Chopin, the Polish composer and pianist, was born on March 1,1810, according to the statements of the artist himself and his family, but according to his baptismal certificate, which was written several weeks after his birth, the date was 22 February (Huneker, 2). His birthplace was the village of Zelazowa Wola, part of the Duchy of Warsaw. The musical talent of Frederic became apparent extremely early on, and it was compared with the childhood genius of Mozart (Marek, 23). Already at the age of 7, Frederic was the author of two polonaises, the first being published in the engraving workshop of Father Cybulski. The prodigy was featured in the Warsaw newspapers, and little Chopin became the attraction and ornament of receptions given in the aristocratic salons of the capital. He also began giving public charity concerts. His first professional piano lessons lasted from 1816 to 1822, when his teacher was no longer able to give any more help to a pupil whose skills surpassed his own (Seroff, 19). Wilhelm Wà ¼rfel, a renowned pianist and professor at the Warsaw Conservatory, supervised the further development of Fredericââ¬â¢s talent. Wà ¼rfel would offer valuable, although irregular, advice as regards playing the piano and organ to young Chopin (Marek, 51). Frederic later attended the Warsaw Lyceum where his father was one of the professors. He spent his summer holidays in estates belonging to the parents of his school friends in various parts of the country. The young composer listened to and noted down the texts of folk songs, took part in peasant weddings and harvest festivities, danced, and played a folk instrument resembling a double bass with the village musicians; all of which he described in his letters. The spatial differences betwee men and women - this is for a gender Essay
The spatial differences betwee men and women - this is for a gender psychology class - Essay Example an others but certain abilities like spatial understanding, mathematical abilities and verbal skills have been shown as having a certain gender component. Kimura (2002) reports the generally accepted observations for human and non human males which show that males of the species tend to have more aggressive behaviors than the females. She goes on to say that, ââ¬Å"We also know that in general males are better at a variety of spatial or navigational tasks (Kimura, 2002, p. 1).â⬠Kimura (2002) is in agreement with Putrevu (2001) who suggests that the differences originate from the biology and the evolutionary path which has been taken by the genders in humans. This focus on evolutionary psychology goes a long way in helping us understand why it is important for men to be more aggressive than the female of the species. For instance, for biological reasons, including pregnancy, childbirth, and nurturing the child, women have made more significant investments in their children. Therefore, women who are more agreeable and nurturing may have caused better chances for the survival of their offspring and created an evolutionary advantage for their genetic code. In this regard, where women have greater sensitivity to nonverbal cues it could be useful to them in evolutionary terms for rearing children. Biological differences certainly extend to the functioning of the brain since one hemisphere of the brain comes across as being dominant for various kinds of processing. Research on the topic shows that the male brain is more functionally lateralized and the female brain is more integrated. This is the basic reason for why men exhibit superior spatial abilities and women excel in verbal and linguistic skills (Putrevu, 2001). Researchers also suggest that sexual hormones and early formation environmental factors are also connected with differences in perceptual-motor skills observed between men and women (Kimura, 2002). Despite the acceptance of fact and research which is the

Event organizers ensured all patrons assumed their respective places before the concert began. Inside the church, there were VIP lounges at the front sections while general fans took the common seats. Prior to the kick off, ushers distributed program leaflets, which provided detailed chronological activities of the event to the settled crowd. The concert started just a few minutes past the scheduled time. Performing groups present were the University of Arizonaââ¬â¢s Symphonic Choir in conjunction with Arizona Choir attached to the St Paulââ¬â¢s Episcopal Church. The two choirs teamed up for preparation to present an event dubbed ââ¬Å"Serenadeâ⬠. Basically, it was an event involving an afternoon of performance in praise of Christian hymn music. The Universityââ¬â¢s Symphonic choir opened with a short performance of the song, ââ¬Å"How can I keep from singingâ⬠, which is a piece of art composed by Robert Lowry, a renowned hymn writer of American Christian music. The choir, under the guidance of Elizabeth Schauer, completed their opening presentation upon which they paved way for the Arizona choir. Arizona Choir, with the support of the chamber orchestra comprising of 10 members, took to the stage with a spectacular performance of the song ââ¬Å"Serenade to musicâ⬠. The Arizona choir later backed up their earlier performance with ââ¬Å"Peter Quince at the C lavierâ⬠. At the stage, the eventââ¬â¢s artist groups integrated both vocal and instrumental elements in their performances. All the music performed by the groups in collaboration with the chamber orchestra was Christian hymns. The deliberate selection of this music style was meant to fit the purpose of creating an environment for an afternoon of praise. The first song performed by the Arizona University Symphonic choir was purely a Christian hymn song. The

Southern Foodways--Introduce a Southern Food Essay
Southern Foodways--Introduce a Southern Food - Essay Example Astoundingly, black-eyed peas do not fall under the category of peas at all. Instead, they fall under an array of beans such as the cowpea and regarded as legumes, that is they comprise edible seeds and pods. The earliest records at the Library of Congress reveal the cultivation of black-eyed peas in China and India that date back to pre-historic times. Furthermore, evidence points out that ancient Greeks and Romans also used to consume them. Similarly, the chronicles of history reveal black-eyed peas to symbolise fortune and luck even during the time of Pharaohs. They advanced that those who consumed black-eyed peas, a cheap and modest meal, demonstrated their humbleness and protected themselves against the wrath of hell, which they viewed to be a consequence of vanity. In addition, records from medieval times suggest the initial domestication of black-eyed peas to have occurred in West Africa. This is supported by evidence of the transportation of black-eyed peas from West Africa t o West Indies by slaves. Later down the road, with the inception of slave trade in America, black-eyed beans reached the low-country areas including Carolinas and Georgia (Kittler, Sucher and Nelms 200). Soon after that, these were planted in Florida and Carolinas, and Texas. However, it was after the American Revolution that the crop took firmer hold in crop plantations. To this day, black-eyed pea ranks amongst the most consumed and popular ingredient in Southern cuisines. In particular, George Washington promoted cultivation of black-eyed peas, because being a legume meant that it offered nitrogen to the soil besides being high in nutrition. Nevertheless, black-eyed peas can only be planted in warm soil, as it is heat-loving crop. Moreover, seeds planted too early decay before germination. Due to their drought resistant nature, they should not be excessively watered. On the bright side, this crop is not much susceptible to pests or diseases. However, black-eyed pea crops should b e regularly rotated or else they become prone to root-knot nematodes. Being an antirogen fixing crop, it has the capacity to thrive for three weeks without nitrogen-based fertilizers after germination. The blossom results in the production of a plethora of nectar and extensive plantations serve as a vital source of honey. Nonetheless, the bloom is a prime attraction for an array of pollinators; thus, insecticides must be applied cautiously to the crop. The chronicles of history are filled with illustrations of countless taboos, superstitions, practices associated with New Yearââ¬â¢s Day. The vast majority of cultures believed there to be an affiliation between personââ¬â¢s doings on New Yearââ¬â¢s Day and their luck in the subsequent year. Such a tradition of good luck by eating black-eyed peas at Rosh Hashana, which marks the beginning of Jewish New Year, has been found in Talmud, complied during the Babylonian times. It records that Horayot and Abaye instructed Jews to in culcate a habit to see ââ¬Ërubiyaââ¬â¢ or black-eyed peas on every New Year in hope of good luck. Another corresponding text is dated back to Kritot that advocated the consumption of symbols of good fortune. This Jewish law from the sixteenth century is still adhered to by the Sephardi and Israeli Jews. The arrival of

My Philosophy of Teaching Essay -- Philosophy of Education Teachers Es
My Philosophy of Teaching I didnââ¬â¢t grow up wanting to be a teacher. I went to college after high school and studied Journalism, International Studies, and Psychology. Teaching was not a career I ever thought about pursuing. Then, I had the opportunity to spend time in the classroom and the teacher pointed out to me that I was a natural. I have had extensive experience volunteering with young people through school and church activities. I coach a high school track team. It is through this involvement and interaction with these young people that it has become clear to me that I need to be a teacher. I have a great rapport with kids and teens. I like them, they like me, and there is a mutual respect. Finally, I know I want to teach! I want to incorporate teaching something positive, something meaningful and helpful into the required curriculum. I want to teach the classics in a non-classic way. I will teach my students to learn about themselves. I want to enable them to realize what they can achieve. I will strive to build character in my classroom. I want my students to learn, interpret, and express! I donââ¬â¢t want to dictate. I donââ¬â¢t want to stand over them and lecture. How Permanent Are Permanet Markers
For my science fair project, I figured out what solvent would work best to erase permanent marker. The solvents I tested were: lemon juice, vinegar, water, and rubbing alcohol. I tried each of these solvents on a permanent marker line on plastic, paper, fabric, and wood. In this research paper, I will be talking about what a permanent marker is, how they are made, why they work so well, what rubbing alcohol is and its common uses, what vinegar is and its common uses, what water is and why water is so essential, and what exactly lemon juice is.I will also be talking about how plastic is made, how fabric is made, how wood is made, and how paper is made. A permanent marker is a type of writing utensil that is used to create permanent lines on almost any surface. The ink of a permanent marker is water resistant, contains propanol, butanol, diacetone alcohol, and different dye colorings, and can vary between all colors from black to yellow. The process of creating a Sharpie permanent mark er is not very long or complicated. First, the barrel of the marker is molded out of a plastic resin.Screen printing is added to the barrel, including information such as the description of the color of the ink and the Sharpie logo. A filament made out of cotton material is used to hold in the ink as it is inserted into the barrel. A needle is used to inject the permanent ink from the opposite end of the barrel. Then the writing tip is applied. The cap is placed on the Sharpie marker and the permanent ink is slowly absorbed into the tip of the marker. The Sharpie is the most popular permanent marker company worldwide. The brand ââ¬Å"Sharpieâ⬠was founded in 1857 and sold ink and glue. Any permanent markerââ¬â¢s ink must contain three ingredients to work. These ingredients are colorant, carrier, and resin. The colorant is what gives the ink its color. Colorants in permanent markers are often pigments, instead of dyes, because pigments fade less easily and do not bleed throug h paper. Dyes are soluble in water, whereas pigments are not. Dyes cannot withstand light as long as pigments can, although dyes are generally available in a wider spectrum of colors.Carriers are what transmit the dye to the paper. They must be able to evaporate quickly once the ink is used. Carriers used to be made up of chemicals such as xylene and toluene, but were vastly replaced by alcohol-based markers in the 1990s. The resin is what causes the ink to stick to a surface. It must have a ââ¬Å"stickyâ⬠quality. The resin forms a film over the pigment once the carrier evaporates. The reason that permanent marker works is because permanent ink soaks into a surface, whereas regular erasable ink does not soak into surfaces, but binds to surfaces.Permanent ink is made with resins and dyes dissolved in glycol and water. The ink dries when the glycol or water evaporates and it soaks into the surface, leaving a permanent mark. There are ways to effectively remove ink from permanen t markers. Alcohol will work to erase permanent marker on almost any surface. Many items, such as hairspray or deodorant, contain alcohol and could effectively erase permanent marker. Baking soda is another well-known permanent marker remover. Vinegar was one of the solvents I experimented with. Vinegar is the product of the fermentation of ethanol. The very slow fermentation process can take weeks or even months and occurs naturally. With a machine to help promote oxygenation, however, fermentation can be as quick as a few days. The typical pH of vinegar can range from 2 to 3. 5. Vinegar can be used for many things, such as a cooking ingredient or condiment, it can be used for household cleaning, it has medicinal properties, and it even has agricultural applications. Lemon juice was another solvent I experimented with. Lemon juice is exactly what it sounds like. It is lemon juice squeezed from a lemon.Lemon juice has similar nutritional values as the whole lemon. Lemon juice is an e xcellent source of Vitamin C and can help your body against harmful germs and bacteria. Lemons are also antioxidants and can help the brain and nerve cells as well as having calcium to help your bones and teeth. The solvent that worked best in my experiment was rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol is a denatured alcohol especially used as an antiseptic. It can also be used to cool, warm, or soothe skin. It can inflame the skin and if ingested, may potentially be fatal.Rubbing alcohol consists of 2 ingredients: isopropyl alcohol and water. In fact, rubbing alcohol consists of so much isopropyl alcohol (70%) that it is often referred to just as isopropyl alcohol. Water was the final solvent that I used in my experiment. Water is essential for anything and everything. Human beings need water to stay hydrated and survive. All living creatures need water to stay hydrated and survive. Everyone uses water every day; whether itââ¬â¢s to shower, brush their teeth, to drink, swim, wash their h ands, or to water plants.Seventy percent of the world is made up of water. Water contains two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, and is often referred to as H2O. The H2 stands for the 2 oxygen atoms and the O stands for oxygen. Water can be a liquid, solid, or gas. Water in its regular state is a liquid, can be frozen to form ice, which is a solid, or boiled at 100à ° C to evaporate it and turn it into water vapour, which is a gas. Plastic was one of the surfaces I used in my experiment. Plastic comes from the Greek word plastikos, which means fit for moulding.Plastic is made using a long and complicated process. First, petroleum is drilled and transported to a refinery. Then, crude oil and natural gas are refined into many petrochemical products such as fuel for your car, ethylene, and propylene. Catalyst is combined with ethylene in a reactor, resulting in polymer, a powdered material. Afterwards, the polymer is combined with additives in a blender. The polymer is put in an extr uder, where it gets melted. The melted plastic is now cooled and a machine cuts the plastic into small pellets. The pellets are shipped to industries. The industries manufacture plastic products by melting the pellets to a semifluid state, putting it in a mould under great pressure, and hardening it. The mould opens and the product is completed except for detail work. Another surface that I used in my experiment was paper. To make paper, first trees are specially harvested like crops for the purpose of making paper. Logs of wood are put through a machine that takes off all the bark on the tree. Then, wood chippers cut the wood into 1 inch bits and the bits are put inside a pressure cooker with chemicals and water. The pulp is then washed, refined, cleaned, and turned to slush in a machine that beats the pulp. Color dyes, coatings, and other substances are mixed in and the slush is pumped onto a moving wire screen. The water is drained away on the screen and is recycled. The web of slu sh is rolled between large rollers to remove a large amount of the excess water and to ensure smoothness and uniform thickness. The resulting product is run through heated drying rollers to remove all of the remaining water. The completed paper is wound into large rolls, which can measure up to 30 feet wide.A slicer cuts the paper into small, more manageable rolls. The paper is now ready for use. Wood was the third surface I used in my experiment. The process for making wood is quite simplistic. First, logging companies cut trees down and bring them to a mill. There, they are prepared for particular uses. Machines cut the logs into boards and are sealed or pressure-treated to preserve them. Then the boards are either sold through a lumberyard or sold directly to companies which need them. Fabric was the final surface that I tested the removal of permanent marker on. Cotton fabric also has a lengthy process.First, the ginning, which is the method of separating cotton fibres from seed pods. This is done by machines in a cotton field. Then, the cotton fibre is spun. Yarn is produced from spinning cotton fibre. In this stage, the cotton yarns are made of different thicknesses. Afterwards, a machine weaves threads of yarn, which eventually turn them into cloth after weaving many threads together. Now, the cloth is basically constructed, but must go through some detail work. First, the cloth goes through singeing, which is the process that burns off excess fibres sticking from the goods. Then, the cloth goes through scouring, which is the cleaning of the fabric. Then, some fabrics are bleached to make it a lighter colour. Mercerizing, which is the dipping of fabric in alkali to make it stronger, shiny, durable, shrink free, and stretch free, comes next. Finally, the fabric is treated with chemicals to make it more durable, and it is shipped off to companies that will either use or sell it. Vinegar, water, lemon juice, and rubbing alcohol all have many uses around the house, but when it comes to erasing permanent marker, rubbing alcohol definitely beat the rest.
